Diffus, the interactive design firm, has designed a solar-powered bag that packs just as much bling as it does energy thanks to the miniature photovoltaic cells that are proudly displayed on the bag as decorative elements. This bag includes 100 tiny copper framed solar panels on the exterior that generate enough energy to power your cell phone or other mobile device, and also activates the fiber optics feature that provides lighting inside the bag – perfect for finding that lipstick at the bottom of your bag at night. When being exposed to sunlight, the bag is able to generate 2 watts of power.
Development of the solar elements was initiated by Swiss embroidery company Forster Rohner AG and conducted in a joint research project between the Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil (CH) and the NTB Buchs (CH). The Solar Handbag was created by Diffus Design (DK), in collaboration with the Swiss partners and The Alexandra Institute (DK) and Center for Software Innovation (DK).
