First Impressions of Samsung Galaxy S4

After sitting through the glitziest product introduction I’ve ever been to followed by a few minutes of hands-on with the Galaxy S4, I came away impressed but not blown away.

I’ll get into details in a moment, but my overall sense of this phone is that it firmly establishes Samsung as a leading innovator — if not the leading innovator — in the smartphone space.  It’s kind of ironic that Apple won a lawsuit last year after a jury found that Samsung had copied iPhone features and designs. The Galaxy S4 — like the Galaxy S3 — could never be called a copycat.  Samsung came out with specs and features that we’ve never yet seen in a smartphone, including any phone that begins with the letter i.
True, the S4 runs Google‘s latest Jelly Bean Android software, but Samsung has done a lot to make it different from other Android phones.
Hardware specs
Like Apple, Samsung is a hardware company that innovates mainly through software. But the hardware specs are worth noting. The 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED; 1,920×1,080 screen, at 441 pixels per inch, is both bigger and higher resolution than the iPhone 5, although the HTC One has an equally high resolution — though smaller — (4.7 inch) screen.  Samsung also upped the ante with a faster processor and unlike Apple it lets users expand the phone’s storage (internal storage ranges from 16 to 64 GB) to plug in a MicroSD card for up to another 64GB. And the phone has a mega-battery. Samsung didn’t say how long the battery will last, but it does have 2,600 mili amp hours,  which is a lot more than the competition. I refer you to a handy CNET chart comparing the S4′s specs with those of the iPhone, HTC One and the Blackberry Z10 if you want more details.
I expect hardware to keep getting better but what impressed me — at least as a first impression — was the software that Samsung added to the phone.  But full disclosure — there is a big difference between sitting through a presentation and getting a few minutes of hands-on time versus testing a phone under real-world conditions. So anything I say is tentative pending my full review.Innovative software & cool photo features
Still, I was impressed with the phone’s photo features beginning with its 13-megapixel, back-facing camera. But what I really liked is the camera’s ability to include the photographer in the picture.  I have taken thousands of pictures of my family but I’m not in most of them. With the S4 you can snap a picture of other people and place yourself — albeit in a little window or bubble — in the frame.  The camera also intelligently sorts your pictures into albums based on the background or the date and you can order picture books directly from the phone. There is also an “eraser” feature that takes a series of quick photos and lets you remove images of people who walk into your shot by deleting just those frames.
Multi-lingual voice recognition
The S4 comes with Samsung’s S Translator tool that enables you to speak in one language and have the phone translate to another. At the press event they showed someone typing a question in English and having the phone speak the words out-loud in Chinese.  When someone responded in Chinese, the phone typed out his words in English. It supports several other languages including French, Spanish, Italian and Portugese.
The phone also has Siri-like voice recognition that outclasses Siri. You can ask it to read your email out loud and ask the phone to respond to a text message while you’re driving. It aso handles navigation and other phone features.
Knows if you’re looking
If you’re watching a video and look away, the video will pause automatically and resume when you turn your eyes back to the screen. You can also scroll by looking up or down and by slightly tilting the phone. It’s not the full-fledged eye tracking that was rumored — but it’s a step in that direction.
Another cool hands-off feature is “Air Gestures.” That allows you to control the phone by waving your hand above the screen. You can swipe left to right or up and down. You can even hover over an email or other item to get more information without having to touch it.
I also love the S Health feature that turns your phone into a pedometer without any extra hardware or, when connected to other devices it can sense your blood pressure, blood sugar or other vital signs. There’s an option S Band that measures your heart beat.
The phone will be available next quarter on hundreds of carriers around the world including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. Pricing wasn’t specified.
Cool factor
There’s a great deal more to say about this phone and its features and — again — I’m not yet ready to pass judgement, but I liked what I saw and can say without any hesitation that Samsung — at least for the moment — is a few steps ahead of Apple when it comes to the “cool” factor.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone: The Always Up-to-Date Guide [iOS 6.1] [Video]

Video

Jailbreaking is a process that changes little by little with each iOS upgrade. Rather than always publishing new guides, we're simply going to keep this one up to date. If you want to jailbreak your iOS device, you've come to the right page.
Current iOS Version: iOS 6.1
iOS 6.1 is the current version of iOS and is jailbroken!
Current Untethered Jailbreak: iOS 6.1
The Evasi0n jailbreak described in this guide works on iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, and 6.1, and can be installed on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3rd generation, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini, iPod touch 4th generation, and iPod touch 5th generation. For additional jailbreak options for older versions of iOS, please see the list at the bottom of this page. As this guide is updated, previous versions of the guide will be archived there as well.

How to Jailbreak

Just follow these steps to jailbreak your iDevice, or watch the video above for a demonstration.

1

Download Evasi0n for your operating system (Windows, OS X, or Linux).

2

Open up the Evasi0n app that you downloaded. Connect your computer to your device. If you have passcode lock enabled, go into the Settings app on your device and disable it in the General —> Passcode Lock section.
Back on your computer, click the Jailbreak button in the Evasi0n app window. It'll take awhile to upload some necessary jailbreak data, and your phone should restart during this process. Wait for Evasi0n to finish this step.

3

As part of the process, Evasi0n installs a temporary jailbreak app on your device. When ready, it'll prompt you to open it. Simply unlock your device, then tap on the jailbreak app icon. It'll cause the screen to flash briefly but appear to do nothing. If you look at your computer, however, you'll find the jailbreak process continues. It'll finish in a minute or so and you can close Evasi0n on your computer. Your device will need to reboot a couple of times, but when you see your lock screen the process is done. Just navigate to Cydia and enjoy your new jailbreak!

Surprise [Untethered Jailbreak To Be Released Today12PM]

iOS 6, 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak Evasi0n To Be Released Monday, Algorithm Used For Progress Bar Hints At 12PM EST

Although you had “Super Bowl” to help you enjoy this Sunday, the highly anticipated Feb. 3 release of evasi0n, the iOS 6, 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak, didn’t turn out, leaving millions among the jailbreak community craving for the exploit. But fret not, the wait is likely to be a matter of just a few more hours.

The evad3rs team has confirmed via its official Twitter account that evsi0n will arrive Monday, Feb. 4. Here’s what the tweet says:
“Final count down toward tomorrow's release has begun!”
Following the announcement from evad3rs, renowned iOS hacker Planetbeing also took to his Twitter account to confirm the same. The hacker tweeted:
“Yes, tomorrow is a concrete release date. It’s also the only release date we’ve ever given.”
Over the last few days, many reports surfaced online suggesting that the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak would be released on the Super Bowl Sunday. The theories around a Sunday release of evasi0n were developed mainly based on a couple of hints from the hackers themselves – first, a teasing tweet from MuscleNerd and then, the evasi0n websiteshowing photos of iPhones with the Calendar icon displaying the date “3.”
However, if evad3rs member Planetbeing is to be believed, there has not been any official hint at a possible release date for the untethered jailbreak.
“We didn't change any release dates. It's silly to try to find "hints" from day 1... when we have no idea when we're going to be done,” Planetbeing tweeted.
But now with the official confirmation on evsi0n release being dropped, it’s time to put all those chatters to rest.
Meanwhile, at the time of reporting, the progress bar was showing that 95 percent of the work had been done with the final testing and preparation underway. The step to follow thereafter was nothing but the “Release!”.

12PM EST, Monday – The Appointed Hour?
Although the evad3rs team has confirmed that Monday will be the release date for the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak tool evasi0n, they didn’t give any specific time to expect the release. But a few enthusiastic minds have managed to find out some interesting clues hidden inside the coding of the evsi0n website that apparently reveal the exact time when the progress bar will touch 100 percent, marking the release time of evsi0n.
A Redmond Pie report has pointed toward a Twitter user with the handle @UK_IT_Guy, who has claimed that the progress bar on the evsi0n website goes up 0.0045 percent in every 30 seconds. If the bar keeps up the same pace, it will reach 100 percent at approximately 9 a.m. Pacific Time, the report has added.
Here’re some of the tweets from @UK_IT_Guy, calculating the time:
“The progress bar on the #evad3rs website is auto-updating, goes up by 0.0045% every 30 seconds. You do the math :)”
“*If* I am correct, I expect it to show 92% at around 2.20 a.m. GMT.”
“Calculations weren't off, just didn't consider rounding showing 92% at 91.9145 so I was correct 2:20 GMT is really 92%.”
thread over at Reddit has also been spotted that explains the algorithm used for the progress bar on the evasi0n website.
“I just used Mathematica to calculate the value of all of these variables. As it turns out, when the 0x11c7 value is equal to 1359997200(00) the percentage is 100%. In Unix Time this value is exactly 12 p.m. noon EST 2/4/2013,” posted Zairex, who started the thread.
What makes it more exciting is Planetbeing’s reply that apparently agrees to the calculation. The hacker said:
“I like your solution the best. :)”
If all these calculations are indeed valid, then it’s quite safe to expect the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak evasi0n to release Monday at 9 a.m. PST (12 p.m. EST/ 5 p.m. GMT) or else sometime around or after that.
An Event Time Announcer has also been set up on timeanddate.com for the release of evasi0n. Click here for the exact time and date of the release based on different cities around the world.
